A workshop will be held in Paris on November 15-18, 2006. It is organised by the Institut de Mécanique Céleste et de Calcul des Éphémérides (IMCCE - CNRS UMR 8028 - Paris Observatory - Université Pierre et Marie Curie UFR924).

This workshop is mainly dedicated to astrometry and photometry of Solar System objects events and to the preparation of future campaigns of observation. Several astronomical studies require a large network of observers in order to acquire enough data of rare phenomena or to observe objects on alert or for a follow-up.

This workshop will especially focus on two specific projects :

• the observation of the mutual events of the satellites of Uranus (in 2007-2008, occurring only every 42 years), of the Jovian ones in 2009, the Saturnian ones in 2010 and any event involving asteroids for the study of natural satellites systems or double asteroids
• the preparation for ground-based follow-up observations needed for the Gaia space mission

The setting-up of networks dedicated to these purposes will be especially discussed. We intend to offer the opportunity to exchange experiences, to prepare new observations, to discuss the methods, techniques and objectives. This workshop will be the opportunity to create or reinforce the links between the observers.

Grants and travel funding

On request in advance to the SOC, very limited grants for accommodation, travel or registration fee may be allocated by the Organizing Committee for worthy actively participating in the workshop by presentation of oral communication or poster.
Beware to the deadline : financial support must be asked before October 15^th.

PROGRAM

Communications on the following topics are planned :

• - mutual events of the satellites of Uranus, Jupiter and Saturn: their observation and their analysis
• - stellar occultations by Solar System objects
• - ground based astrometry and photometry dedicated to Solar System objects
• - follow-up and observations on alert of transient events detected by Gaia
• - detection and follow-up of multiple asteroids
• - observations through networks and coordination

Scientific program :

The sessions will be held from Thursday November 16^th to Saturday morning November 18^th in the meeting hall of Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris, close to the Paris Observatory.
A tentative schedule based on the pre-registration received at the present time indicates that the sessions will be :

• - session 1: The Uranian satellites
• - session 2: Mutual events analysis
• - session 3: Gaia project and ground-based observations
• - session 4: Asteroids observations
• - session 5: Campaign of observations, follow-up, networks.

Time for a round table will be managed during one of these session.

Format of the conference

Oral presentations are recommended to be made in English. Their duration will be 15 minutes for contributed communications and 25 minutes for invited ones.

Posters are welcome. Their dimension should not exceed one meter x one meter.

Proceedings

The communications made at the workshop will be reviewed and the proceedings will be published in the journal Planetary and Space Sciences.

INFORMATION FOR THE PARTICIPANTS

Travel information

Some informations are given on the Paris Observatory web site, and the ADP (Paris airports) web site for Roissy CdG or Orly airport. See also the metro RATP web site for any itinerary and time table. Consider that taking the metro or the RER (suburban train) is generally the most convenient, and cheapest way to travel from the airports or from the train stations to Denfert-Rochereau. When taking a taxi from CdG airport to Paris in the evening (6-8 pm) you risk to face traffic difficulties.

From Roissy (Charles de Gaulle) airport (map) :

	-	recommended: take the RER-B (suburban train) up to Denfert-Rochereau station. Trip circa 50mn, fare around €7.75;
	-	or take a taxi. Trip around 50mn, price around €40.

From Orly airport (map) :

	-	recommended : take the OrlyBus up to Denfert-Rochereau.
	-	or take the OrlyVal up to Antony then take the RER-B direction Paris up to Denfert-Rochereau.

From gare du Nord train station (map) :

take the RER-B direction Robinson or St-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse up to Denfert-Rochereau station.

From gare de Lyon train station (map) :

	-	take the RER-A direction Cergy-le-Haut or Saint-Germain en Laye up to Chatelet-Les Halles, then take the RER-B direction Robinson or St-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse up to the station Denfert-Rochereau.
	-	or take the bus 91 direction Montparnasse up to the stop Observatoire-Port Royal.

Speakers will be provided with an overhead projector, a computer, and a video projector. If you need any other equipment, please contact us. Feel free also to send us by e-mail a copy of your presentation (.ppt, .pdf, ...) in advance.

Several hotels are at walking distance of the observatory.

Lunch :

Lunch will be available at the observatory and are included in the registration fee for November 16 and 17.

Coffee Breaks :
